Is your company required to report on sustainability?

What is mandatory climate reporting?

Let’s break it down.

In Australia, starting from January 2025, some companies will be required to start disclosing information about climate-related risks and opportunities, as well as their plans and strategies to mitigate these risks and leverage opportunities to reduce their climate impact.

ISSB &
IFRS

The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) is an independent standard-setting organisation within the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation – a not-for-profit responsible for developing global accounting and sustainability disclosure standards, known as IFRS Standards.

Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards

The Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) has developed IFRS-aligned sustainability reporting standards for Australia, broadly referred to as the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS).

Mandatory Climate-Related Financial Disclosures

The ASRS provides the framework for legislation which requires some Australian companies to prepare climate-related financial disclosures. This was officially mandated in 2024 through amendments to the Corporations Act. 2001 (Cth) (Corporations Act) and related legislation.

*The start date is dependent on your organisation’s reporting period being calendar or financial year.

It's simply not an option to put this off until after legislation has passed, and then scramble to comply. You have to figure out how you're going to marshal data, support and capabilites and start keeping the necessary records now.
